Allowables
Poem by Nikki Giovanni & Art/Code by Molly Obermeier
Final Project —
For this project I wanted to develop a set of codes to express the different lines in the poem while emphasizing their meaning or feeling. Some carry more weight than others and by using color I could emphasis the transition in the poem while also highlighting certain pieces which hold the most weight when I read the poem. I feel as if all poetry can be read and understand differently by everyone. By illustrating this poem by Nikki Giovanni I can highlight my understanding and add some imagery to her beautiful words.
Below you will find the codes, poem in its entirety and precedent images.
Allowables
Poem by Nikki GiovanniI killed a spider
And if the truth were told this
Was only a small
Sort of papery spider
Who should have run
When I picked up the book
But she didn’t
And she scared me
And I smashed her
I don’t think
I’m allowed
To kill something
Because I am
Frightened
